Take Stock in Children College Scholarship Program Students, Events, Scholarships, Mentors, and Hope Take Stock In Children is a statewide scholarship program that targets students with a financial need and a strong desire to succeed. Each school year, ninth grade students from Calhoun County Public Schools are invited to apply for 2 + 2 college scholarships (2 years at a community college plus two years at a four year Florida state university or college) through the Take Stock in Children program. In order to be considered for the scholarship, the student’s family must meet eligibility guidelines and both the student and parent(s) must be willing to sign a contract. The contract requires students to: · Maintain satisfactory grades · Demonstrate good behavior · Stay in school until graduation · Remain drug and crime free · Attend Take Stock in Children activities Upon graduation from high school, the students receive a Florida Prepaid College Scholarship and the chance of a brighter future! This program is offered through The Take Stock in Children Program for Calhoun County Public Schools. Students ... Since 2006, local students have been awarded Take Stock in Children college scholarships through The Calhoun County Take Stock in Children Program in partnership with the Florida Prepaid College Foundation. As local support increases, more local students will receive the opportunity to go to college. Mentors ...What really drives this program? It’s the behind-the-scene mentors, probably people like yourself who have a big heart and a keen interest in seeing our community’s youth succeed. Each Take Stock in Children student is assigned a mentor to encourage and guide him or her throughout high school. Mentors serve as role models, personal cheerleaders and most of all, a friend to the student. The time commitment is minimal, 30 minutes a week, on the school campus during regular school hours. Other opportunities to spend time together come through sponsored Take Stock activities.
